In January 2022, snow removal operations occurred on the west side of the pass. However, upon reaching the summit, it became apparent that driving farther was not possible due to the presence of snow.

However, since the opening of the highway from Igumenitsa to Kalambaka, the condition of the road has deteriorated. There are many deep potholes and slippery sections, with some parts only wide enough for one vehicle. It is still safe to drive during daylight hours. The unique landscape makes the journey worthwhile. Officially, the entrance to the pass road is only permitted at your own risk from Metsovo. However, the exit towards Meteora is open as of 4.10.2019 and there is very little traffic. The road's poor maintenance suggests it may soon be closed.
