This tranquil location is popular among walkers, with visitors usually arriving around 8 am. The on-site toilet facilities are closed during the winter season when the visitor centre shuts down. Families can enjoy a great picnic area and a play area for children at the education centre, along with beautifully carved sculptures. If you are approaching the carpark, it is advised to use the south entry as the sharp hairpin bend from the north can be challenging for larger vans. There are numerous scenic walks available through the woods, alongside babbling brooks, small waterfalls, fords, and picturesque nearby villages with historic ironworks.
This is a charming area for a quick break. It offers picnic benches near the river, but please note that there is no internet or phone signals. It is a popular spot for dog walkers with plenty of walking trails. There is a £1 parking fee, so remember to bring cash to pay the meter. I visited on 25/07/21.
