Maaraue Campsite is situated across from Mainz's old town, boasting a stunning view. The Rhine River is just beyond the campground. Adjacent to the site is an outdoor pool, conveniently reachable on foot. Wi-Fi is available at the kiosk for 1 euro per day, while the amenities may be a bit outdated, the location is exceptional. Although city sounds like ships, planes, and trains are audible, being in the city center has its advantages. The campsite is suitable for families with children, although there isn't a playground on-site.
We stayed at the campground from September 17th to 19th, 2023. The campground is basic and the restroom facilities would benefit from renovations, although they were kept clean. Changing our pitch to one with a direct view of the Rhine River was easily accommodated. The bread service is excellent, as the bread is provided by a local baker. However, there are limited options for snacks.
The campsite is peaceful but quite remote. The path to get there is narrow, but it's easy to reach the city by bike. On the downside, the toilet facilities are very outdated, with the new floor coating peeling off. The showers are also very small, without a designated area for parents and children. Additionally, it's not allowed to use tent carpets. Considering this, I find the price too high for the services provided.
