The South Tynedale Railway, located at Alston off A686, is a historical train route that spans from Alston to Slaggyford. Visitors can find a car park at the railway with a seasonal cafe and restrooms. There are also opportunities for bike trails and walks. While there are no specific parking restrictions, it is suggested that visitors make a £5 donation to support the railway. The parking barrier may close outside of business hours, but alternative parking is available next to the railway station and cafe if needed. This location is ideal for exploring the scenic beauty of Alston, Alston Moor, and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
