In the vast landscape of Alta Murgia lies a bauxite quarry with vibrant red colors, now a post-industrial site since mining ceased in the 70s. Accessible via an unpaved road connecting Castel del Monte to Spinazzola, it's not open to the public due to landslides risk. A short walk offers surreal scenery but requires sturdy footwear.
The path to the canyons is partially open to the public. There are hiking trails available nearby. After a 9 km hike, we spent a peaceful night there. Please take your trash with you and avoid leaving wipes behind. The area features beautiful scenery, including old bauxite mines.
