There is a picnic area in the northern outskirts of Shatili that offers a beautiful view of the old fortified village and the Muzo slopes. The area is not very crowded, and there are toilets available. A faucet can be found about 200 meters away, at the base of the village. It is worth noting that the pass road to Shatili may only be suitable for vans due to its clearance requirements. However, construction work is currently underway, and the entire route is expected to be paved within the next one to two years.
This village is a great spot with only guest houses and cafes. The last 40 kilometers from Tbilisi are on an unpaved road. It's best to go during dry weather, but you don't necessarily need a 4x4 vehicle. It took us 4 hours and 30 minutes to cover 40 kilometers in our truck.
We stayed here for two nights. It was calm and peaceful. There is still a basic toilet available. Mobile phone reception is available (Geocell). The road is not yet paved. It is approximately 40 km of gravel road with potholes and drop-offs to get here.
